This 1991 Jaguar XJS is a black-over-cream Classic Collection coupe that is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Classic Collection trim consists of 15″ basketweave wheels, a four-headlight arrangement, and special emblems, and additional equipment includes fog lights, automatic climate control, an onboard computer, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and power-adjustable and heated front seats. The was first sold by Thoroughbred Motorcars of Nashville, Tennessee, and it spent time in Kentucky before it was recently acquired by its current owner. Maintenance in preparation for sale included an oil and filter change and replacement of the air-conditioning system components, spark plugs, drive belts, and the fuel injection rail and filter. This XJS V12 now shows 90k miles and is offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with manufacturer’s literature, a recent service record, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Kentucky title.

The body is finished in black and features chrome mirror housings and trim. Additional exterior details include a quad headlight arrangement, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and a retractable antenna, as well as a gold ‘growler’ front badge and a special edition rear badge. The seller notes clearcoat failure on the upper-right section of the deck lid.

Silver 15″ basketweave wheels are wrapped in older 235/60 Firestone Indy 500 tires. Braking power is provided by discs at all four corners.

The cabin features seats upholstered in cream leather with burl wood trim on the dashboard, center console, and doors. Amenities include automatic climate control, an onboard computer, power-adjustable and heated front seats, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and power windows and locks. The air-conditioning compressor, receiver drier, and related components were recently replaced, and wear is noted on the driver’s seat.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows under 90k miles.

The fuel injected 5.3-liter V12 was rated at 263 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque when new. Maintenance completed in preparation for sale included replacement of the following:

Fuel injector rail, leads, and filter

Spark plugs and leads

Oil and filter

Accelerator linkage and kick-down switch

Drive belts

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, and corrosion is visible on hardware and components. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery below.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
