This V-12 powered 1988 Jaguar XJ-S Hess & Eisenhardt Convertible is described by the seller as an all-original example with 40,100 miles showing on the odometer. The vehicle history report shows a continuous ownership history in the dry environs of California and Central Oregon from new. The seller shares that this car has been driven only 13,000 miles over the past 16 years.
The seller shares that the Signal Red paint and steel bodywork are all original and in good condition. Some fine dents, scratches, and chips are noted. The seller notes that this West Coast car shows no rust of any note. All glass, lighting, weather seals, and exterior trim are noted by the seller to be in very good condition. The brightwork is shiny and stated to be in good condition. The rubber bumper covers are in good condition, with minor scuffs and light waves noted. The convertible top material is said to be in very good condition. The electro-hydraulic power convertible top has been function tested by the seller and is noted to operate properly.
While the standard XJ-S coupe is a 2+2 with a rear seat, the Hess & Reinhardt convertible is a true two-seater. The interior is a classic design with top-quality leather and burl wood trim. The beige leather upholstery is noted to be in good condition, with some wear showing on the driver’s seat. The carpets are said to be in good condition. The air-conditioning and heating systems are noted to operate as designed. All power accessories, power windows, gauges, and seat adjusters are stated to work properly. The wood veneer on the dashboard shows cracking in the lacquer. The armrest shows splits, staining, and wear, and the B pillar trim caps have light stains and frayed seams evident. The convertible top boot shows light staining and aging and the passenger’s sun visor is sagging and has a broken clip. The switchgear on the center console appears to be loose and the rubber brake pedal pad is missing. The factory radio is locked and will require a factory code to unlock.
Powered by a 262-horsepower, 5.3-liter Jaguar V-12 coupled to a strong and reliable GM Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic, the XJ-S offers brisk performance with serene comfort. The HE (High-Efficiency) V-12 features a SOHC design with fuel injection and was capable of bringing the XJ-S up to a top speed of nearly 150 mph. Per the seller, the engine is original to the vehicle, starts readily and run well. The transmission is also reported to shift smoothly. An occasional oil drip has been observed by the seller.
The Jaguar XJ-S has four-wheel disc brakes and four-wheel independent suspension. The rear disc brakes are of the inboard design which reduces unsprung weight. The suspension, brakes, and power steering are stated to be functioning properly and in good condition. The steering is stated to pull slightly right. No unusual noises, leaks, vibrations, or damage have been observed by the seller. The wheels are noted to be in fair condition, with pitting visible on the outer rim. A set of Pirelli P400s are fitted and are noted to have 2007 date codes. While they exhibit adequate tread, they should be replaced based on age alone.
This vehicle will be sold on a clear Oregon title in the seller’s name. Additional documentation includes a Carfax vehicle history report, original owner’s manual, and a binder of receipts dating from 2002 to the present.
The XJ-S was a great leap into the future for Jaguar and stood as the company’s grand touring flagship for over two decades. This 1988 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible offers accessible entry into an exclusive realm of that already that exclusive club.

Signal red with beige interior and black top. Very unique car; one of only a thousand or so made with the Hess & Eisenhardt factory-authorized convertible conversion - a collector’s car. This Jaguar has only 41,000 miles on odometer. Body is all original and in good condition although there are some fine dents, scratches and chips.
The interior is in good shape although it shows some wear. Systems all work well. Engine runs well, no mechanical issues noted. Much work done in the past two years: New steering rack; New battery; New alternator; New radiator hose; New Tie Rods; New windshield wiper motor; New wiper/washer switch; New radiator cap; New drive belts; New air filter; Full lube oil and filter service; New shock absorber, rear. Could tuck it away for investment appreciation or use as a daily driver.
