ON EBAY 12/07, 95,000 MILES, SELLER WRITES:

Build date 11/83. One of first half dozen built and shipped to the US and used as a test car. Pre-production CAMs with only parts no. for blanks. Extra set of CAMs, extra gear box, extra instrument panel and computer. Extra set of Euro headlights and other misc. parts.

Test log and manuals. Spare set of BBS rims along with original star-fish. Seats re-upolstered. No deep rust and most surface rust neutralized. No bondo etc.

Car has been brought back to excellent running condition and she withstood a track day at Carolina Motorsports Park in October. 95 plus percent there. A few minor interior cosmetics left to do. True 95k miles. Documented restoration and mechanics.

She weighs under 3300 lbs so shes quite a bit more nimble than a 12 cylinder, and pulls strong. Great compression etc. quicker than 12 cylinder cars and a lot simpler to maintain.

Instead of taking her to the next step as a racer, leaving her be for now and giving collectors a shot at her. A piece of Jaguar history.

Opening bid $8,000 reserve not met, no bids 6 days left in auction. 135k miles. Car now said to be in Columbia, South Carolina.

Sellers description:
Lightweight XJ-S with a very early AJ6 six cylinder engine mated to a five speed Getrag Gearbox. What is rare is subjective: this car is one of two dozen sent by Coventry to Jaguar North America for testing purposes. The cars had consecutively numbered VINs. Detailed information including the established history of this car is provided in the following link [not provided]. References are included to validate the authenticity, records, and condition. I also have additional valuable parts that I may package with the car under reasonable terms. I have weighed the car under 3300 lbs and it feels and handles like a sports car and more like an E-type than a grand tourer.

Although an XJ-S body type, the handling, responsiveness, and quickness distinguishes it from other XJ-S cars, including the later 4.0 cars that weighed several hundred pounds more.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
