Sellers description:
I am selling my classic 1977 Jaguar XJ-S V12. This car is my weekend car. It is a 1977 model XJ-S and is a relatively rare car. In 1977 only about 4000 of these cars were made and most of those shipped with a GM automatic transmission in them. The GM transmission was used up until the car stopped being produced in 1996. This car has a Borg-Warner automatic transmission in it. This transmission was only put in late 1975, 1976 and early 1977 cars and is much more rare than the GM models. I believe the axle ratio is better as well since the transmission is geared differently. It is attached to a 5.3 Litre V-12 engine that is fuel injected. It starts right up and runs great.
The car has four wheel independent suspension and four wheel disc brakes with four piston calipers. The rear end of the car was rebuilt by the previous owner, I have photographs and receipts to prove it. It has inboard rear brakes that were redone then too. It also received a new steering rack from the previous owner as well as a Crane ignition. Since I have had the car, I flushed the cooling system, replaced both thermostats (it has two) and a new heater control valve. I have also replaced the front brake pads and it had a caliper rebuilt on the driver's side.
Externally, the previous owner painted the car a matte black using the original color as striping. It is not personally my style but it looks cool. He also painted the wheels black and the grille and headlight surrounds as well as the marker lights in the front. When I got the car it also had blacked out taillights. I still have them, I replaced them with stock ones since it was a little hard to see the lights at night. I have a spare set of headlight surrounds as well as several grilles that are still chrome if that is your style. They go with the car. I actually have several boxes of spare parts including a spare computer that I will include for the right price. I also have several manuals including a Jaguar dealer's manual for repairs on the car. This is the book the dealer would use to fix your car if you brought it in.
Interior wise the front seats are black leather and power with power windows and locks. As you can see in the picture, the driver's seat separated at the seam and needs to be resewn. There is black carpet in good shape and the passenger seat is nice. As expected from a car this age, there is a few cracks in the dash but nothing too bad. The tachometer works intermittently but all the other gauges are fine. The rear seat was removed by a previous owner to make a two seat car. I do NOT have the seat. It has an aftermarket cassette player installed.
The only problems with this car are the tachometer that sometimes works and the car needs a metal brake line on the driver's caliper. When the caliper was rebuilt, the brake line twisted and is blocking the flow of brake fluid to that wheel. Due to this, there is no braking on the driver's front wheel. It is driveable and does not leak anything but I personally wouldn't drive it very far since the car effectively has three brakes right now. The line is less than a foot long and would cost a couple of dollars at a parts store. I just haven't changed it yet because I do not have a garage and the weather has been too cold on my days off. The car stays covered in my driveway and I drive it around my neighborhood weekly.
