Sellers description:
We just acquired this very interesting Jaguar from the original 38 year owner who bought the car brand new here in our town, Erie, PA, from Porreco Jaguar in May of 1976. This gentleman owned numerous sports cars over the years and only drove this car an amazingly low 10,535 miles over his long term ownership. Only his senior age and health has caused him to part with this beloved car. Totally original down to the finest detail, this first year XJS Jaguar has been well maintained and properly stored every year of its life. Interesting is the fact that the garage we picked up the car from is the same garage the car spent every one of its 38 years.
Upon our purchase we did do a very thorough service to bring this car up to optimum driving safety, reliability and performance. Currently the car needs nothing to be driven and enjoyed but we do want to make one very clear disclosure. This car, with its incredibly low original miles is riding on its original equipment Dunlop tires and while they appear near perfect condition, they are of an age they should be replaced for safe driving in particular at high speeds. We have made the choice to leave them on the car at this time to document the cars low miles and originality. We can very easily install four new proper tires if a buyer desires.
One short drive will demonstrate the feel of this car and how the low miles give that feeling of a near brand new car. The motor is smooth and powerful with no issues. Transmission shifts very nicely, brakes operate as they should and all systems work including the AM-FM 8-Track Stereo. All gauges and lights area working. We notice that the heat-defrost-A/C system, while it does function, is slow to respond to a desired change in air direction by the control. It does work and seems to much better as we drive the car more but may require some repair or lubrication if the issue persists.
Exterior paint as you see in our photos is very nice as is all trim, chrome and glass. We did refinish the right quarter panel to correct some very minor scrapes from an object that fell against the car in the garage many years ago. Paint work is excellent and a good color match.
Interior is near mint condition, leather is soft and supple and has never had any dye work. Dash cover is not shrunk as is often seen as this car has never sat extended periods in the sun. The trunk compartment is as new and the original new spare tire and wheel has never been on the ground. Jack and tools are in their original bag, unused.
This early Jaguar XJS is nicer than any one we have seen for many years and a beautiful car in its rare exterior color of Bright Red with Saddle Leather interior.
