Auction description:
This 1996 Jaguar XJS Celebration Edition is a final-year convertible showing 37k miles and is finished in black over tan with a black top. The car was sold new in South Carolina and acquired in 2013 by the seller, who has since reportedly kept it at a winter home in Arizona and driven it 14k miles. Power comes from a 4.0-liter straight-six paired with a ZF 4-speed automatic transmission. A transmission service was carried out in February 2019 along with installation of a new power steering hose, filters, fluids, spark plugs, and more. This XJS is offered with a clean Carfax report, service records since 2013, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The Celebration Edition was released for the final two years of XJS production, and this example is finished in black paint with a matching cloth top. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
Factory diamond-turned 16″ wheels show areas of oxidization and are wrapped in Yokohama Advan S.4 tires showing 2013 date codes. The top is shown both lowered and raised in photos, and a tan boot is included for use when stowed.
The tan leather interior features lighter-colored piping, walnut trim, and dual front airbags. Features of the Celebration Edition include embossed Jaguar logos on the seats and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The seller notes cracks on the wood trim above the shifter. A Jaguar-branded AM/FM/cassette player is included.
Approximately 37k miles are shown on the mechanical odometer. The cruise control system is inoperable despite replacement of the electronic module with a used unit.
The 4.0-liter AJ16 inline-six received a coil-on-plug ignition system in 1994, and factory output was 237 horsepower when new. The seller had a 60k-mile service including fluid changes and transmission work performed by British Auto Repair of Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2019. New filters, spark plugs, and other items were also installed as detailed on an included invoice. A new battery was fitted in 2018.
The sale includes records since 2013. The Carfax shows no accidents or other damage during ownership in South Carolina and Arizona. Mileage was reportedly entered incorrectly during the recent service at British Auto Repair, with the seller noting a correct reading on the invoice for the work.
