W/regards to this VIN (SAJNX2348SC197773 ) What does a "different VIN number on the firewall" imply? This car is on ebay now (Aug 9, 09). When I hear VIN differences talk it sort of raises flags. Thanks
Don

Regarding Don's VIN question, starting in the mid 80s the USA required a universal 17 digit VIN the UK didn't adopt this for at least another decade. The VIN on the firewall is Jaguar's VIN, they placed stickers in multiple places on the cars that complied with USA requirements. Heritage certificates will reflect the universal number not the firewall number.
Ebay item 10/31/22
Opening bid $10,000, no reserve, 9 days left in auction, seller alsosprach car now in Plano, Texas, Previously in Houston, Texas, 68k miles.
Seller's description:
1995 Jaguar XJS convertible with the 6.0 litre V12 engine and 4-speed automatic. This was the last and best year for the Jaguar XJS V12. I have owned this car since 2015. I bought it showing 56K miles, however, looking at the history, it is likely that the odometer is not correct. I have added 12K miles since I purchased it.
The previous owner did some good work, including all new injectors, seals, and other top-end work. He also replaced the starter and replaced the A/C compressor with an upgraded 134A unit.
Since I have owned it, I have fixed/replaced:
- All new suspension bushings (very expensive but important work to restore its handling)
- New motor mounts
- New (used) catalytic converters, passes smog test every time
- Fixed parking brake
- New plugs, distributor cap and rotor
- New power steering pump and rack
- New AGM battery
- New center ski slope with cup holders
- New (used) OEM power antenna
- New heater valve and some hoses
- New oil pressure sender, this is the upgraded sender that shows actual oil pressure, not the switch type
The car rides on Michelin Primacy MXV4s with good remaining tread. It has an upgraded Pioneer DEH-80PRS Bluetooth receiver. Included with the sale are numerous spare parts, including: full manual set, the original radio, original ski slope, replacement power brake booster, new instrument cluster, hoses, filters, lights and trim pieces, etc. Please see photos.
The car is in good condition for its age, and runs and handles well. The top, A/C, transmission, windows, power seats, etc all work. It has only a few minor issues, including a couple of small leaks, an occasional squeak at cold startup (lasts a few seconds) and the windshield washer level sensor is disconnected.
Of course, a test drive is recommended. This is no-reserve auction. This car is a blast to drive, and always grabs attention. Looking forward to the new owner continuing to care for it.
