Lot #100032

This 1995 Jaguar XJS 2+2 convertible has remained registered in California through the current owner’s acquisition in 2011, and subsequent work is said to have consisted of reupholstering the seats in tan leather, refinishing the wheels, and replacing the wood trim, emissions equipment, carpets, and sill plates. It is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Brooklands Green. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, a power-retractable beige soft top, 16″ multi-spoke alloy wheels, fog lights, aftermarket suspension components, a rear spoiler, a luggage rack, heated power-adjustable front sport seats, a cassette stereo, cruise control, and automatic climate control. This XJS convertible shows 75k miles and is now offered on dealer consignment with factory literature, spare keys, a battery tender, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.

The car is finished in Brooklands Green and features a power-retractable beige soft top as well as fog lights, headlight washers, a Jaguar growler hood emblem, dual exhaust outlets, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust outlets, a rear luggage rack, and a telescoping antenna. The front bumper cover is said to have been replaced under current ownership along with the convertible top and the weather seals.

The 16″ multi-spoke alloy wheels were powder-coated under current ownership and are mounted with Pirelli P6 tires which are said to have been installed in preparation for the sale. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and the car is equipped with Jaguar Sport springs.

The heated power-adjustable front sport seats and two rear bucket seats were reportedly reupholstered in tan leather with color-contrasting piping. Interior amenities include a cassette stereo, driver-seat position memory settings, cruise control, and automatic climate control. Additional work performed under current ownership included the replacement of the carpets, wood trim, and sill plates. A set of Coco Mats floor mats is included in the sale.

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 75k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership.

The 6.0-liter V12 was factory rated at 301 horsepower and 351 lb-ft of torque. A replacement battery was reportedly fitted in preparation for the sale, and the car passed an emissions inspection in September 2019.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. According to the seller, the exhaust system and catalytic convertors were replaced under current ownership.

1995 Jaguar XJS V12 convertible 2+2 with very desirable V12 engine. British Racing Green (HFB-Jaguar Green, Brooklands Green) with tan top over coffee interior (SDC) with contrasting white piping, which seems to be the most desirable color combination. I'm the third owner. The second owner purchased it in 2010 with 70,000 miles and lavished $30,000 in restoration and upgrades to bring it up to a 99.95 concours level automobile by 2015 (Official Concours d'Elegance Judging, Jaguar Clubs of North America, 9-27-2015, original paperwork supplied) and only driving it 5,000 miles in the process. The car was always in southern California since new until I purchased it in March of 2023 on Bring A Trailer (where I believe it was grossly under represented), flew to Los Angeles and drove it home to Cape Coral, Florida without an iota of problems. I promptly drove it to Paul's Jaguar in Ft. Lauderdale and had Paul remove the existing "sport" springs and install the correct stock springs, along with addressing a few other minor issues. Paul said, "This is one of the finest examples I have seen of the XJS". Roger, the manager at Thoroughbred Motors in Sarasota (who corrected a minor cooling problem) said, "It's hard to believe this car has 78,000 miles". I have three 3-ring binders with what I believe is every receipt for all services and upgrades since new. This is the epitome of the "buy the best one you can afford" school of thought. Everything works and the car drives flawlessly. New: paint, top, top liner, correct leather interior, carpets, coco mats, tires (March 2023), etc, too much to name. Everything correct down to the "Growler" chrome valve stem covers. Paul Phillips from Paul's Jaguar had the foresight to have a limited production run of the air conditioning evaporators (which are exclusive to the '94-'96 XJS) manufactured by the original manufacturer. They are known to oxidize and need to be replaced after many years of service and have become unavailable from the dealers or the aftermarket. Although the existing one is fine now, there is no telling when it will inevitably become rusted through and need to be replaced and not available on the open market. I purchased one from Paul for $700 and have it in the carton ready to go. Although the labor to replace it is extensive, it is now repairable. The evaporator, a premium car cover, a hard-to-find Jaguar shop manual, the almost-new sport springs, all original literature, custom coco mats for the front and trunk, and the three 3-ring binders containing all receipts since new, are to convey. The original MSRP of the XJS V12 convertible was over $82,000. Although production numbers are nebulous and debatable, some estimate the total production of the 1995 XJS V12 2+2 convertible to be around 79 to 83 in the US market, maybe under 360 worldwide.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
