Seller's description:
1992 Jaguar XJS, 5.3 V-12 Convertible. NO RESERVE! This is an unmolested Survivor. It can be driven and enjoyed as is or restored to its original glory. The only ‘restoration’ I have done is to have all the interior woodwork refinished by a man who retired from the wood finishing dept at Jaguar. They are gorgeous! The original leather seats were beginning to show their age, but instead of making a permanent change, I chose to cover them with seat covers done in the style of the British 4 speed Jaguars – ‘leather’ sides and fabric center insert. To me they are much more comfortable (cool). Even they are now showing signs of age with a small tear on the drivers seat (see photos), but they are easily replaced or you can work on restoring the original leather. The rest of the interior is in very reasonable shape. Stereo was replaced with a JVC CD player and the ashtrays were replaced with cup holders.
Other details: It had a newly installed top when I bought it and it is still great. I added a tonneau cover. The body has no dings or dents and the paint is in very good shape for a 33 y.o. car. Headlight covers are a bit fogged like they all get, but I learned that a quick application of ATF brings back the original clarity (but it does need to be repeated). Chrome, bumpers are all good. Original Jaguar wheels are shod in General 215/65 tires with plenty of good tread left. Spare is also on a Jaguar rim, but from a different year. Front discs and pads replaced recently. All routine maintenance done faithfully. Car is recently inspected with current NH registration. It is “Title Exempt” being manufactured prior to 1999.
Known issues: The ‘anti-lock brakes’ light is on and that feature no longer works. This is actually a GOOD thing as they were first generation anti-lock and were terrible. The ‘check engine’ light is on and is throwing a FF44. It has a fairly new O2 sensor on that side so I’m thinking it is either a ground issue or the heater wire on that side is compromised. Lots of info on this at Jag-lovers forum. It still runs fine. For some reason, both the voltmeter and the oil pressure gauge take about a mile or so to ‘wake up.’ After that they are fine and accurate. I did install a new alternator only a year ago so that is NOT the problem. The switches in the center console for windows and top are sometimes intermittent. They have been replaced but still sometimes take 2 or 3 pushes to work. I think all Jaguars have this problem, at least all XJSs. Some of the tabs that the tonneau cover clips into are torn. This does not really effect the fit of the cover. I did have a mouse issue one year – mostly the insulation on the hood and a couple of blankets that were in the boot behind the seats. The blankets I threw out, the insulation could easily be replaced, but I haven’t. I did not find any real damage to wiring. I got some vibrating ‘mole chasers’ that seemed to work last winter. I’ll give them to you with the car.
