This 1988 Jaguar XJS was turned into a convertible by Ohio-based coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt and is finished in dark red over cream leather. Power is from a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and equipment includes a tan power-operated convertible top, chrome trim, 15″ wire wheels, automatic climate control, cruise control, a trip computer, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo. The car has been registered in Florida for most of its life, and is said to have been acquired by the seller approximately a year and a half ago. This XJS is now offered with tools, manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.
Commissioned by Jaguar, Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles were manufactured between 1986 and 1988. This example is finished in Grenadier Red and features chrome-trimmed bumpers and mirrors as well as fog lights, a power antenna, dual polished exhaust outlets, pinstripes, and a power-operated tan convertible top with cream-colored boot cover.
Chromed 15″ wire wheels have three-ear knock-off style hubs and are mounted with 215/70 Michelin Symmetry tires. A silver-finished “starfish” spare wheel is mounted in the trunk and fitted with a black vinyl cover.
The cabin features cream leather upholstery on the seats and armrests along with matching carpets, floor mats, and burl walnut veneer on the dashboard, console, and doors. The front seats are heated and power-adjustable, and amenities consist of automatic climate control, cruise control, a trip computer, power accessories, and an aftermarket Alpine CD stereo. The removed factory stereo is included in the sale. Scuffs can be seen on the driver-door armrest, and a crack is visible on the outer passenger seat bolster.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 31k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added during current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 sends power to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller states service was performed in August 2020.
