Seller Private
According to the seller of this Glacier White 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible, the car scored 99 points out of 100 at its last concours outing. Alleged to have been a show car for the majority of its life, the Jaguar grand tourer’s odometer reads 45,477 miles. Said to have always remained garaged during inclement weather, its replacement black canvas roof has reportedly never been down.
POWERTRAIN
As fitted to this car, Jaguar’s SOHC V12 displaces 5.3 liters. According to Motor Trend, the fuel-injected powerplant was tuned to generate 285 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 294 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm in U.S. trim. A three-speed automatic transmission, sourced from General Motors, completes the front engine/rear drive layout. The seller states the engine starts readily from cold. He also cites neither leaks nor weeps from the engine or the transmission, which is said to shift “perfectly.”
EXTERIOR
The Glacier White finish is declared original to the car and in “perfect” shape. Similarly, the bodywork is proclaimed to be free of blemishes. The original roof has been replaced and the new one has yet to be folded, the seller notes. Glass and windows are characterized as being “perfect.” Body seals are avowed to have no leaks. All exterior lighting is said to work as well. The seller cites replacement of the hood struts.
INTERIOR
Upholstered in Dark Red leather, all the seats’ adjustments are said to work, and their appearance is described as “like new.” With that said, the seller discloses replacement of the piping on the driver’s seat. Carpet condition is classified as “perfect.” All instruments are noted to be working. The original audio system is in place and reported to be functioning properly. Power windows, automatic door locks, and the climate control system are also understood to work as intended.
CHASSIS
While a small leak from the power steering rack is mentioned, the car is said to track straight, with no play in the steering. Bushings and shocks are declared issue free, as are the brakes. Images supplied by the seller of the undercarriage lend credence to his assertion that previous owners avoided inclement weather. All four of the 15-inch alloy wheels look good in the photos, visually supporting the seller’s claim that they, too, are issue free.
DOCUMENTATION
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Wisconsin title in the name of his and his wife’s revocable trust. All books, manuals, and the radio code card are included. Professed to be all original—except for the new top, hood struts, and battery—this 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible appears to be an exceptionally well-preserved example of the model.
