Seller's description:

1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Only 40,600 Miles From New Clean Carfax VIN: SAJNA5849KC151798 Paint: Dorchester Grey Metallic (LDP) Trim: Mulberry Leather (CEM) Date of Manufacture: May, 1988 Sold new in Michigan, this ‘89 XJS spent the overwhelming majority of its life in Indiana, trading hands locally a couple times before selling to a gentleman outside of Chicago in 2017. As it sits now, this is a low-mile, very nicely-sorted, rust-free V12 XJS that is in need of nothing other than a new owner who will use and enjoy it. Exterior: Blemishes are minimal; limited to a handful of small chips scattered around the front end and door creases, all of which have been touched up, and a scratch behind where the rear license place would sit. - Paint gauge readings vary between 6.0-12.0 around the car, consistent with one repaint. Paint was done right; paint appears as-factory. Truly excellent finish with just the aforementioned minor blemishes. - Body is nice and straight. No dents, dings, and most importantly, no bubbling. Inside corners of the doors, lower corners of the fenders and quarters, corners of the windshield, all are free of any rust or bubbling. A very nice, dry, honest example in impressive condition. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Lights and signals are all functional. - All of the polished surfaces, like trim and bumpers, show minimal oxidation. The rear bumper has some very light oxidation towards the middle - Wheels are excellent, with no damage or oxidation. Very clean, presumably refinished relatively recently. Pirelli P600 tires are in good shape but are a bit older than would be ideal. - Panel fitment is spot-on. Doors, hood, and trunk all open and close super smoothly. - Weatherstripping is nice throughout, not dry or cracked. Interior: - Much like the exterior, the inside of this XJS is pretty impressive. Mulberry leather is an excellent contrast against the grey metallic. Very handsome. Signs of age in the interior are minimal. There is some wear on the driver’s outer bolster seam, some chipping in the wood dash around the center vents, as well as a crack in one of the trim pieces that button up to the headliner over the passenger rear seat. Very minor. - Dash is gorgeous. No cracks on either the dash top or the wood finish. Gauges are all functional, including odometer, which shows just over 40k actual miles from new. This is accurate based on known history, records, and outstanding condition of general wear items. - Air conditioning blows cold. Heat and fan are functional. All interior lights are functional. Radio is functional. Wipers and wiper sprayers are functional. Power windows, seats, and mirrors are functional. This car does have cruise control as well. These cars have automatic seatbelts, which slide from A-pillar to B-pillar when you get in. Convenient or weird, depending on who you ask. - Carpeting is in nice shape, with no significant stains or discoloring. The car will come with its original red floormats as well, though they aren’t too pretty. - Headliner is nice and tight. Under the Hood / Underbody: - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. This car is excellent underneath. No through rust whatsoever, and minimal surface rust. This car has been responsibly-kept and babied and it shows. No exhaust leaks; this car is dead silent at idle and at cruising speed, despite the V12 under the hood. All the boots and rubber components underneath are in nice shape, not dry or cracking. No active leaks either, which is impressive to see from an old Jag. - Car will come with a handful of recent service records, including a thorough inspection and subsequent power steering flush in 2017, as well as a 2019 brake fluid flush. As it sits now, the car runs and drives beautifully. Buttery smooth and awfully quiet. Truly no on-road tendencies or noises of any concern. The car starts right up first turn, idles cool and steady, pulls hard through the gears with the effortlessness that only a V12 can provide, tracks straight, and brakes nice and effectively. Shifts are smooth, not clunky or delayed. A confidence-inspiring driver. Fly in and drive home without a worry.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
