Ebay item 2/22/14 www.ebay.com/itm/360866209054
Opening bid $8,000, no bids 5 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
This is a 1979 XJ-S, 2 door with automatic transmission, air-conditioning and electric windows and locks. The car has 31,592 original miles. The front has bucket seats, the back has seatbelts for two. It uses unleaded fuel, the tank holding 24 gallons, and has emission control. It has power steering and power brakes, with electrically operated windows and door locks. The motor is a 12 cylinder running with 3 carburetors and its capacity is fulfilled with a 326.06 cubic inch motor (I think). Normal use is considered 120 MPH. This vehicle has many more accessories as the ultimate in touring automobiles.
I am the 3rd owner. A doctor in Walnut Creek, California bought this Jag new for his wife. She refused to drive it anymore because she heard it was dangerous. My mechanic told me it was probably because the electric harness runs over the gas tank. It sat in their garage for years.
An account for a car dealership in Anacortes, Washington was the 2nd owner. He went to California and had the Jag trucked up to Anacortes. His hobby was restoring corvettes and he decided to restore this Jag. He had it shipped to Seattle, Washington where it was sandblasted down to bare metal. He told me he only saw two welds on the chasse, one on top of each shoulder where the fins were attached. He had it painted light green, although it looks silver to me. He also had new leather installed on the seats and doors, new felt interior liner and new floor mats. He decided to install a larger radiator. The Jag comes with a custom cover, Jaguar mud flaps that are still new in the box, and the original smaller radiator. The Jag has Jaguar Caps on the wheel hubs. The Jag includes the original Drivers Handbook & the serial number tag for making new keys. The Jag was again stored in a garage. He and his wife decided to open their own home decorating store and needed the capital to purchase inventory.
The Jag had 31,094 miles when I bought it. The windshield wipers, horn, radio and fans did not work. I took my Jag to an import auto specialist, it probably only needed a new fuse. The mechanic told me I should replace the flexible hoses as they get old & brittle. I spent 3$G getting them replaced. One day I was driving down the highway and a hose that had not been replaced split and the motor overheated. I did not notice until it was too late. Now the car sounds funny, it smokes terribly & all the warning lights on the dash are on. I drove it a total of 498 miles. I still did not get the above items fixed. I have had it stored in a garage since October of 2008, and have not renewed the license since then. I have just purchased 2 new front tires and a battery.
My favorite thing about this car is its brakes. Once when I was driving down the highway excelling to about 70 miles and hour, I had to make an emergency stop. The Jag went from 70 to zero in about 6 feet without swerving an inch. There was a concrete barrier to my left and several cars to my right and front. The Jag is equipped with a dual circuit system in which braking to the front wheels is completely isolated from that to the rear.
One can either have the original motor rebuilt, or have a V8 motor dropped in. If one put the V8 in, and parted out the original motor and its parts, I am guessing it would pay for itself. That is up to the initiative of the buyer.
