This V12-engined XJ-S Coupé was first registered in the name of the lady vendor's husband's company before ownership passed to her in 1993. A manual transmission model finished in Bordeaux with cream leather interior, it is effectively a 'one-owner' car and is described as in generally excellent condition, having covered only 13,000-or-so miles from new. Accompanying documentation consists of the original purchase receipt and Swansea V5C. MoT'd and taxed, the car is currently registered on a personalised plate but will have been re-registered prior to sale.

Car to be at auction 8/18

Auction description:
ESTIMATE £20,000- £24,000
Auction The Wayne Plit Collection
Lot Number 153
Chassis Number SAJJNAEW3BA153369
Year 1989
Make Jaguar
Model XJS 5.3

The time warp car offered here is certainly one of the lowest mileage XJS in existence and with its ultimate V12 configuration is amongst the most desirable and collectible XJS' to come to market. This fabulous example, finished in Bordeaux with a cream interior, was purchased new from Exeter Garages by a Helen Bithrey of Weston Honiton in the UK on the 17th August 1988 (for the sum of £30,400).

The Jaguar's history file contains a copy of its original purchase invoice, photos of the car signed by Helen, various older registration documents and licence discs from 1988 all the way through to 2013 when the car was purchased at the Bonhams Oxford Auction on 15th June 2013 by our vendor. Our vendor did not intend to purchase the XJS and had gone to the auction in search of other classics but his attention was immediately drawn to the car's elegant yet aggressive lines flowing all the way to the top of the flying buttresses at the rear (this and of course the fabulously low mileage). The XJS is hot on the heels of the success of its older brother the E-Type, and we feel this concours-quality example really does merit closer inspection. The registration of the vehicle onto eNatis is underway and can be completed by the vendor at no additional cost.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
