Ebay item 2/24/18 Gov.UK mot website
The sills were actually repaired at that time (but only painted black not body colour) but the other failure items were never attended to. Since 2009 the car has been in storage at a local garage - initially up on a ramp out of the way but following a relocation of the garage to new premises a few months ago it is now accessible and back on its wheels. It was covered but is still filthy. It drove the few miles to the new location on trade plates.
I have decided to dispose of the car rather than complete it as I have too many other projects on the go and the garage needs it out of the way. Basic Details:
Registered August 1986
circa 93,000 miles
3 previous owners
Good history - see below
Light/mid Metallic Blue
Grey leather interior
Rear seat conversion with rear seat belts
Later lattice wheels with good (but older now) tyres
Leaper and chrome strip on bonnet...
The car is currently covered in a layer of grime as per the photos. The outside shot was taken in the summer of 2008 and only a few miles before the car was taken off the road. (before you ask, I hated the celebration wheels so it now wears lattice type and the celebration wheels disposed of. I also no longer have the original star alloys)
Overall the car will look presentable from 5 yards. It has had paint in the past but still has original side stripes fitted. There looks to be some rot in the usual XJS places including the scuttle to front wing seams and the rear wing to sill seams - there is below surface bubbling. See detailed photo of scuttle.
As mentioned above, the sills themselves have been repaired for MOT but have been painted black rather than body colour. Body wise, however, I think the car could be run as is without embarrassment
The rear section of the hood was replaced in 2008, together with the targa section headlinings (cost £650). The car hasn't been stored outside since this was replaced. The targa storage bag in the boot is present. All chrome is pretty good and the wheels are nice. I think the spare is a star alloy rather than a lattice.
Interior:
Requires a clean
Grey leather.
Rear seat conversion using coupe rear seat. Back was replaced with new old stock so very good. Rear seat belts fitted. I do not have any of the original storage bin parts.
Front seats were good but unfortunately I knelt on the drivers seat reaching in to get something and one of the seams gave way - just about visible on the interior photo. Should be an easy repair...
New floor mats - specific fit but can't remember if factory or not. Came from EuroJag and labelled 'redundant stock'.
Alpine iDA-X001 stereo
All wood was replaced summer 2008
Mechanical:
The engine and box ran well but obviously has now been standing a while.
The front sub-frame requires a repair due to corrosion
The rear shocks need replacing (4 off units included)
There is a problem with the handbrake
The front suspension bushes have been replaced but there is still some movement - shims need looking at again
Radiator doesn't look great...
Electrics - on drive to new location there were warning lights on so assume electrics will need looking at following storage.
History:
Original handbook included but no wallet 17 old MOTS included
91,600 miles had a major service at Guy Salmon costing over £1000 - receipt included
92,500 miles (ish) - July 2008 - new Front and rear brake discs/pads
