The opportunity to buy another classic Jag means I must part will my XJ-SC which I have owned for around 5 years now. I bought it from a dealer who had stored it for 5 years as his own car and I had recommissioning work done including new front discs and pads and various suspension and service items. In my ownership the car has been used sparingly in the summer months and garaged over the winter. It has never let me down and the only running issues have been a water leak which required replacement of the water pump and a sticky brake caliper 2 years ago which led to the removal and overhaul of the entire rear suspension unit and the replacement of rear discs, calipers, pads and handbrake pads! The best way to describe the car is in fairly original honest condition. There are a few age related matters as you’d expect. There’s a small scrape on the lower nearside wing that you don’t really notice, the hood has a small area over the offside rear window where the beading has separated from the canvas, but there’s nothing serious enough to warrant attention. The underbody structure is remarkably sound reflecting years of dry storage and has had just one repair to a radius arm mounting. The interior is nice and original, with just a couple of areas where the stitching has stretched on the seats, and the leather trim has separated from the driver’s footwell carpet. Being a cabriolet the roof is comprised of two targa panels in decent condition although they have lost their linings and a folding rear hood section as previously mentioned which has a decent rear plastic window. Being garaged the roof stays down the folding section neatly stowed under a new cover I located a while back, the targa panels in the proper storage bag in the boot. It has not had the rear seat conversion so retains its original carpeted lockers and luggage area. Mechanically everything is in very good order, the engine oil having just been changed. Being a 3.6 manual it’s a great drive reminiscent of an e-type in poise and character thanks to the fully independent suspension. Mileage is showing 96K which although I don’t have any service history prior to my ownership I can confidently warrant as genuine and is reflected in the overall condition of the car. If you want a good useable summer car then come and take a look. Tax is to October and MOT to next June".
