Car to be at auction 11/10
www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

Auction description:
Sale 18219 - Collectors' Motor Cars, Motorcycles and Automobilia, 17 Nov 2010
Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate
Lot No: 746
16,900 miles from new
1986 Jaguar XJS C 3.6-litre Targa Cabriolet
Registration no. C627 RJK
Chassis no. SAJJNACC7CC 124957
Engine no. 9DPAMA 102370
Estimate: £12,000 - 14,000

This exceptional motor car has effectively been used by just one private owner from new who bought the car from Caffyns in Eastbourne in January 1986. This car was one in a long succession of Jaguars which had passed through his ownership since 1962. He covered minimal mileage with the car and, when acquired by the present second private owner in 2008, the recorded mileage was just 16,718 miles. This mileage and history is confirmed by a comprehensive history file accompanying the vehicle and showing the care and attention to detail during its first ownership. The file includes every Jaguar dealer service invoice since new and other correspondence attesting to the care and attention lavished on this car.

In 2008 C627 RJK joined a hand-picked collection of exceptional low mileage motor cars, all maintained to the highest standards and regular premier award winners on concours d'élégance lawns. New Michelin XVS tyres were fitted for safety reasons along with a replacement battery. Mileage has been minimal since acquisition, the recorded mileage at the time of cataloguing being just 16,900 miles.

This XJS 3.6-litre Cabriolet, presented in antelope livery with buckskin leather interior, is a rare derivative of this increasingly sought after model. Prospective buyers will only appreciate its outstanding originality and condition by most careful inspection of the car itself and its history file. C627 RJK comes with the original owner's manuals, a full tool kit, original tonneau cover, current licence and MoT certificate (to November 2011) and a Swansea registration document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
