There is no data plate on the vehicle that states a year

The best source for all details about your Jaguar XJS is a Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
It costs money any you will have to provide all the numbers, but for a nice car it if worth it.
For many of my cars the actual manufacturing date is different from the date on the door sticker.
