This 1988 Jaguar XJ-SC shows just 9,646 miles and is a US-spec example that has reportedly been owned by collectors from new. The XJ-SC launched in Europe in 1983 and was the first open-topped XJS offered. This unmodified example is powered by a 5.3 liter V12 paired to an automatic transmission and is equipped with functional air conditioning and interior power features. The most recent service included new fluids, filters, and a brake service. The car is sold with a clean Carfax and a clean New York title assigned to the selling dealer.

The SC was an interim model that debuted ahead of the full cabriolet XJ-S. According to some sources, the SC is actually somewhat stiffer than the fully closed car thanks to the extra bracing and partial top. The paintwork shows a deep, even gloss, and this Jaguar has no history of accidents or bodywork. The Haartz cloth top is original.

The top can be used in several configurations. With all of the panels in place the car is effectively a coupe. The center roof panel is removable in two sections, while the rear panel is retractable. The folding rear section features a glass window with electric defroster.

This XJ-SC retains all of its correct equipment, including the original wheels and lighting. Trim appears to be in good condition throughout. The five spoke wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P4 tires, though the spare wears an older Pirelli.

The finish is believed to be all original, and consistent paint meter readings are shown throughout the car.

US-bound XJ-SCs were all highly optioned, V12-powered cars. This example retains its original radio and automatic climate control with working air conditioning. The wood veneers appear to be free of cracking and fading, and the fragile dash vents are all intact.

Some wear is visible on the driver’s upper bolster from ingress and egress, but the rest of the blue upholstery is in good condition. The carpets and floor mats look clean with a deep pile, and the edging throughout the cabin is intact.

Gauges are the correct early type, with drum-style auxiliary gauges mounted between the speedometer and tachometer. The 9,546 miles indicated are reported as accurate.

The 5.3 liter V12 is unmodified and was rated at 262 horsepower and 290 lb-ft. of torque when new. The engine is backed by a GM-sourced Turbo-Hydramatic transmission that shifts smoothly per the seller. When the previous owner acquired the car it received a full service, including the replacement of all filters, fluids, and a brake service. A few other small items were addressed, including the replacement of a top seal and a new antenna cap.

This 1988 Jaguar XJ-SC is finished in blue over a blue leather interior and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a blue soft top with removable targa panels, air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM cassette stereo, an onboard computer, disc brakes, and 15″ wheels. The car was acquired by the seller on BaT in January 2017, and work performed in 2021 included recharging the air-conditioning system, flushing the brakes, changing the oil, and replacing the power-steering rack, battery, and tires. This XJ now shows 11k miles and is offered with partial service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Arctic Blue Metallic with a blue Haartz soft top that features dual panels up top along with a folding fabric panel aft of the roll bar. Additional equipment includes chrome trim and mirrors, fog lights, and a dual-exit exhaust system. The paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.

Five-spoke 15″ wheels wear Jaguar-logo center caps and are mounted with 215/70 Kumho Crugen HT51 tires. A full-size spare is stored beneath a vinyl cover in the trunk, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Work in May 2021 included replacing the tires, flushing the brakes, and replacing the power-steering rack and associated hoses.

The interior features bolstered seats upholstered in blue leather along with wood trim accenting the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Additional equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM cassette stereo, an onboard computer, and power windows and mirrors.. Service records show that the air conditioning system was recharged with R134a refrigerant in May 2021. The electric lumbar adjustment and seat heaters are inoperable, and the seller reports that the headliner is drooping on the passenger-side targa panel.

A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and drum-style auxiliary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 11k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the the seller.

The 5.3-liter V12 is equipped with electronic fuel injection and was rated at 262 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque when new. The fuel filter, air filter, water pump, thermostat, drive belts, and coolant hoses were replaced in 2017, and work performed in preparation for the sale included changing the oil and replacing the battery. The seller notes that the car leaks oil.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The transmission mount was replaced in 2020.
