June 12, 2017. Bought this a few weeks as a wedding present for my wife. We were married 5 weeks ago and as we were away on the honeymoon for 3 weeks have not had a lot of time to enjoy her yet, though we have gone a couple of very nice long drives. I have a busted my hand at the moment so no driving for a week or so. She's a pretty Red Kitty we call Red Gala.

Previously For Sale January 15, 2017 on Gumtree Australia. Location was Samsonvale, Queensland. Asking AUD $ 14,500 with 252,000 kilometers. Listing says "1985 Jaguar XJ-SC Convertible. Grace, Pace and Space is what defines the Jaguar XJS range to a tee. With its powerfull yet silently smooth V-12 engine, it’s turbine like power will comfortably waft you to speeds well in excess of the legal speed limit. In fact it will do 100km/h in first gear and 180km/h in second. The Cabriolet model of the XJS range is a special car which few get to experience firsthand due to their rarity. The rigidity and control of a hardtop coupe with the open space of the convertible without the associated wind buffeting and judder that plague convertibles. In fact, with both T tops off and the rear hood folded down, there is only little more than a light breeze at 150km/hr. With both tops up it feels almost like a solid XJS coupe rather than a convertible making the Cabriolet arguably a better driver’s car. This particular car is body number 1206 of 5000 and is believed to be the first Red Australian Delivered XJ-SC in Australia. Included is some of the original documentation including the owners’ handbook, some service records and original tool kit. This 1985 XJ-SC V-12 Cabriolet model has undergone a thorough overhaul mechanical wise, as can be seen by the pictures under the hood. The cooling system has been rejuvenated so it never overheats in traffic, in the middle of summer (as tested) and the distributor, leads and spark plugs have been seen to as necessary. The car has fantastic handling characteristics reminiscent of all Jaguars as it effortlessly travels around corners at greater speeds then you would first expect. This example does need cosmetic attention to bring up to standard as the paintwork is showing signs of age (original paint crazing) particularly on the bonnet. There is some small rust bubbling on the driver’s side rear bottom quarter panel and some along the inside bonnet edges otherwise the body is in excellent condition. The Targa top is in good usable condition that does not leak. The interior is in good condition. This car represents a fantastic opportunity to obtain a mechanically good example that needs only cosmetic attention and has been priced accordingly".

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
