Car at auction 5/23

www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1983-jaguar-xj-sc-targa-36-manual-nQEJxn

Auction description:

1983 Jaguar XJS

Colour Antelope

Odometer 78,953 Miles

Engine size 3590

Auction DetailsSeller Type Private

Town Lewes

Location Sussex

Country United Kingdom

Very rare targa-convertible model

Extensive history file, including heritage certificate

Original Buckskin interior and Antelope paintwork

First registered in 1984

MOT valid until March 2024

No MOT advisories

Only 79,000 miles recorded

Hand written maintenance record of work carried out between 2004 and 2021

Extensive original owner’s literature on file, including Service Manual, Maintenance Record, Owner’s Handbook, Electrical Data Chart and stereo Owner’s Guide

The Maintenance Record is very well stamped, mostly by Jaguar main dealers

Four previous registered keepers

Heritage certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust

The car retains its original registration number: A300 FAU

Sold new via Mann Egerton in Nottingham

Extensive invoices on file for parts and servicing

The Interior

Original ‘Buckskin’ interior in very good condition throughout

The upholstery is very well preserved, with no rips, tears, or loose stitching

There is a little creasing to the leather of the driver’s seat, commensurate with its age and mileage

Slight wear to the driver’s seat bolster

The carpets remain clean and tidy, with little sign of wear

Excellent veneers on the dashboard and door cards, with only a few insignificant chips and cracks to be found

We’re informed that all the instruments, buttons and switches function as they should however the air con and the heater fan doesn't work but the heater does

Large, thin rimmed leather steering wheel

The dashboard top appears to be free from cracks and UV damage

Luggage storage space behind the seats

There is some wear to the trim where the convertible hood fits

Spacious, fully carpeted boot to the rear

Full size spare wheel, with fitted cover

Tonneau covers stored in the boot

The Exterior

‘Antelope’ paintwork very well presented

The roof features a ‘Targa’ front section and a convertible rear

This allows for open air motoring, or a closed cabin, or half way between the two

The hood is in good smart condition condition, with new seals recently fitted

It can be neatly stowed under a tonneau cover when lowered

The car is generally very well preserved

We could find very few scratches or blemishes

The vendor reports that there is a little superficial corrosion

The underside looks great, with no damage that we could see

It has been undersealed for protection

Alloy wheels very well presented, with no scuffs or damage

The chrome trim is all present and correct

Lamp lenses clear and bright

The Mechanics

3.6-litre straight-six engine

Manual transmission

The vendor tells us that the car always starts first time, if a little slowly

As far as we know, the car is mechanically original

The only reported issue is that the air conditioning is not working

Said to drive well, steer and stop as it should

The accompanying paperwork sets out the work which has been completed recently

This has included work on the suspension and running gear, heating system and more

The engine bay looks very clean and tidy

A handwritten service record was started by the previous owner in 2004

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
