Car to be at auction 9/20
www.barons-auctions.com/view-lot/3818/for-sale-at-barons-auctions-1987-jaguar-xj ...
Auction description:
1987 Jaguar XJS-C
Guide Price: £6,000 to £7,500
Manufacturer: Jaguar
First Registered: 1987
Model: XJS-C
Registration No: A9 GJO
Mileometer: 71,000
Chassis No: SAJJNACC7CA139710
MOT: 22 October 2020
Colour: Silver Birch
The vendor purchased this car a year ago, and it was bought from the nephew of its long-term owner of 25 years, whose initials are on the registration. The car comes with all of its Jaguar documentation, including service books and all MOTs from 1994 except for 2001. A Jaguar Service Manual is also included along with the tool kit.
The vendor states that the car drives nicely with no clunks, rattles or smoke; the suspension is smooth and last weekend it was taken to the XJS day at the British Motor Museum. The targa tops can be stowed in the case in the boot.
Prior to the vendor’s ownership, the rear sub frame was dropped to replace the callipers, discs and pads. It also had a new water pump and coolant flush. In the present ownership it’s had the manifold skimmed to cure a blow, new tyres and some professional welding to the n/s seat belt anchorage and the sills re-painted. The oil and filter have been changed along with the fuel filter.
The only issues at present is the handbrake has stopped working, and the driver's electric window needs attention. There are a couple of rust bubbles on the boot lid and one on driver's door.

Car to return to auction 11/22

1987 Jaguar XJ-SC 3.6 Targa Top - Manual
Colour Silver
Odometer 72,672 Miles
Engine size 3590

Auction DetailsSeller Type Private
Location Essex
Country United Kingdom
This wonderful classic starts its life by rolling off the Coventry production line in the first half of 1987
It soon makes its way through a few owners, and it would appear to spend most of its time down on the south coast
Within the service book, there is quite a good stamped history
From its first service in 1987 at a little over 1,000 miles
Its most recent service was in 2020 at 70,975 miles
Along with the service book, there are a lot of Jaguar original books and even a map of Europe
Within the paperwork folder, you’ll find the obligatory V5, almost all of the car's MOT certificates, and invoices
The most recent invoice shows work done to the power steering, some repair work to the lower front valance, re-covering of the interior ‘ski slope’, and a few other smaller works
The current owner also did some rust repair works to the lower part of the rear bumper, as such these are now nice and solid
It also got four new tyres in 2020
In 2018 the rear subframe assembly is removed to replace the rear brakes and a couple of new radius arms
It looks like the water pump was replaced in 2017 at 68,800 miles
Now, it’s your turn to write the next chapter of this XJ-SC’s life
With a comfortable ride and removable top, you can imagine this car cruising along the Amalfi coast next summer with the wind whipping through the cabin
The Interior
Wonderfully original condition
The centre console, or ski slope, has been recovered in a smart black vinyl
Great wood veneer condition
Fitted with a lovely light brown leather interior
For the age of the car, the leather is in very good condition
The two rear seats are in the best condition
The two front seats showing signs of use, but no major damage
If you want to get picky, there is some slight rubbing to the passenger side bolster
But once again, this is not any kind of major damage
The light brown carpets throughout are presented very well indeed
Moving up to the removable roof section
We can see that there are some marks on the headliner on the rollover hoop section and just above the driver’s door
Hopefully, this will come out with some elbow grease
The two removable Targa-tops are in great condition on the inside
With a simple twist of a handle, they are removed and stowed neatly in the original bag found in the boot
The rear section then folds down and stores neatly behind the rear seats
Up front, the centre console and dash area look very nice
The black vinyl is in good condition
Even the Quartz analogue clock set into the dash showed the correct time throughout the photoshoot
There is some slight damage to a couple of the buttons on either side of the clock, but these don’t appear to affect their usage
In the boot, you’ll find the same light brown carpet, the Targa-top bag, and the spare wheel
Overall, the interior is in lovely condition
Chuck your bags in the boot, remove the Targa’s, and get going
You will always enjoy a drive out in this big cat
The Exterior
Presented in a fetching Silver Birch colour
This paint is in good condition in general
As mentioned, two rear quarter panels, just behind the rear wheels, have been replaced with new metal and re-sprayed
Another part of the exterior that was repaired, was the front valance, once again for corrosion purposes
Unfortunately, this is extremely difficult to photograph, so you’ll have to go off the invoice
You might spot two areas on the boot lid that show signs of bubbling and a few areas of very minor corrosion dotted around the exterior
There is also one minor car park ding to the driver’s side, along with some slight loss of the gold pinstripe
But the major body panels look nice and solid
All four of the rims are in very good condition
As it’s the Targa top we must talk about the condition of the tops
Both the removable panels are in great condition
The rear fold-down fabric part is also in good condition
Overall, the exterior is presented very well for its age
It will sit very well in your collection, or on your driveway
The Mechanics
This XJ-SC runs and drives very well indeed
On the day of the photoshoot, it started first time and drove to the location
During the drive it behaved impeccably, riding well, and delivering power to the rear wheels with no apparent juddering or hesitation
Fitted with a 3.6l six-cylinder it is more than capable out on the road
It also has a 5-speed manual gearbox
This means you won’t be frustrated by slow and sloppy gear changes as you might be with an aging automatic box
There is a wealth of service history and some invoices for mechanical work
The current owner spent a lot of time and care in picking the correct example
After listening to some of their experiences with other XJ-SCs it would seem that this is a very good driver
With the tops removed and the rear section folded away, it will be unlike any other car you’ve driven
Just imagine all of the fun that you can have with this car
